Boiler Making Noise? Emergency Assessment
Unusual boiler noises often indicate an underlying problem that requires attention before it leads to a system failure.
Types of Boiler Noises
Banging or kettling noises (often caused by limescale buildup or overheating), whistling or kettling (restricted flow), gurgling (air in the system), and vibrating or humming (pump or fan issues).
What the Noise May Indicate
Banging noises can indicate overheating in the heat exchanger. Gurgling sounds suggest air trapped in the system that needs bleeding. Continuous humming may point to a pump that is failing.
Noise Diagnosis
Our technicians will identify the specific sound pattern and locate its source. Treatment may range from system flushing and bleeding to component repair or replacement.
Safety Reminder
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide or believe there is an immediate danger, leave the property and contact emergency services or the appropriate gas emergency authority. Do not remain inside — exit the building immediately and call for help from outside.
