Efficient Cooling Settings
Set your thermostat to 24-25°C when home. Each degree below 24°C increases cooling costs by 6-8%. Use AUTO fan setting — continuous fan re-evaporates moisture from the coil and increases humidity. Use ceiling fans to create a wind-chill effect — you can set the thermostat 2-3°C higher.
Heat Management Strategies
Close blinds and curtains on south and west-facing windows during peak afternoon heat. Open windows at night when outdoor temperatures drop below 18°C. Cook outdoors or use a microwave instead of the oven. Avoid using the dryer during the hottest part of the day. Plant deciduous trees on the south side for natural shading.
System Maintenance
Check and replace the air filter monthly during continuous cooling. Keep the outdoor unit clear of debris and vegetation — maintain 24 inches of clearance on all sides. Check the condensate drain line for blockages. If your AC or heat pump is struggling during a heat wave, it may need professional service.
