Summer Maintenance Tasks

Flush the system to remove sludge and debris — consider a professional power flush every 5-8 years ($400-800). Check and top up system inhibitor (corrosion protection). Lubricate the circulation pump if it has oil ports (older pumps only). Test the pressure relief valve. Check for leaks that developed over the heating season. Bleed air from all radiators.

Running the Boiler in Summer

Run the boiler for 10-15 minutes once a month during summer to keep the pump seals lubricated and prevent the pump from seizing. If your combi boiler provides summer hot water, this runs automatically when you use hot water. If the boiler is heating-only, set it to run briefly once a month.

Consider Off-Season Service

Schedule annual boiler service during summer — availability is better and some companies offer off-season discounts. Summer service ensures your boiler is ready for winter without the fall rush. Technicians have more time to do thorough work and identify developing issues. Preventative summer maintenance costs less than emergency winter repairs.
